I can see how the cost breakdown can ...Hey Kelvin,

I can see how the cost breakdown can be confusing there are so many options its like buying a car.

$1260 was the total bill for 4 people.

The base price of the meal was $240 per person with tax and tip already included.

The Kobe beef was $100 per order, we got one for the table.

The foie gras was $30 per order and you are correct that only two of our party ordered it.

The supplemental courses refers to an extended tasting menu beyond what is normally served for $240. I've heard that the cost of the extended menu depends on the food being served that evening. We got a few extra small courses and desserts so the cost was fairly modest, $35 per person. Though I've read that during truffle season, the cost can be in the hundreds for the extended menu.

I believe the extended menu included: the egg custard, the gnocchi, the posset, and creme brulee.

Hope this clears things up for you. Enjoy your trip to The French Laundry.Epicuryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18202402318969816036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7912629715405541739.post-12400582791897304262010-04-18T04:19:14.110-07:002010-04-18T04:19:14.110-07:00Hey Epicu Ryan
I am about to hit the FL in a the ...Hey Epicu Ryan

I am about to hit the FL in a the next month or so, I always interested about the Grand Chef tasting menu,

now I have a few questions after reading your post about the price break down,,,

The food bill 1260 is it for 4 people? (sorry I saw 4 guys together so I assume it's the bill for 4 people, or it's only your part of the bill only?) May be you were the host of the evening?

Because I was little confused about the break down,,,

After resting for a bit and complaining about how full we were, we finally paid the bill and asked for copies of the menu. The cost of food came to 1260 (960 for the chef's menu; 100 for kobe beef; 60 for foie gras; and 140 for the supplemental courses). I highly suggest adding the supplemental courses if you can stomach it, at $35 a person its quite a steal although I have heard cost varies depending on what goes into the dishes.

$100 kobe/ per person?? or for 4 people?
$60 Foie / I thought the FG only $30 more/per(is it mean only 2 person partake the FG?
$140 supplement courses/ per person, or for 4?

$35/person?? from what ??? or is it a typo??

I understand the price may vary by season and ingredient,,,but the above price is it per person extra?? or is it for the whole table of 4?

because the menu is only $240 each? even X 4 would be $960

if it's extra $300 for the table of 4 which means only $75 extra person for all the FG, dessert and kobe, petit four,,it is a great deal,,,,

sorry I might have some trouble reading the break down, but you are pretty much the only one have a better review about the extended menu and picture from my research,,,

it would be a great help,,

please and thank you

@_@Kelvinnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7912629715405541739.post-26676131708896730732008-08-17T09:16:00.000-07:002008-08-17T09:16:00.000-07:00I am looking forward to reading what you think of ...I am looking forward to reading what you think of Laundry. I envy you, having all 3 Michelin 3 stars in NY. I have been meaning to make a food trip to NY but the challenge of getting reservations to all 3 of those restaurants in consecutive days scares me.

Keep writing, I look forward to more fine dining reviews on your site.Epicuryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18202402318969816036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7912629715405541739.post-8376956443411742042008-07-26T23:24:00.000-07:002008-07-26T23:24:00.000-07:00Thanks for that information. I think I will now desperately try and get a reservation at French Laundry.

Your site has been very helpful for me to find places in the West Coast.

If you like I've just started a site tubntubby.blogspot.com my focus is more east coast restaurants though...

PS It is nowhere near as good as yours though!!!Tubshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10781901133339437735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7912629715405541739.post-48543236517415731342008-07-20T22:36:00.000-07:002008-07-20T22:36:00.000-07:00Hey Tubs,Good to meet you. The majority of reviews I have read comparing Per Se to Laundry basically state they are comparable. Since I haven't been to both I can't say if its worth it to try Laundry if you have already been to Per Se.

You are correct, if you want the extended menu, you should ask about it when making the reservation. The price of the extended menu varies, I have heard during winter there is an extended truffle menu that costs around $500. Our food cost was $315 per person $240 for the regular menu and $75 for various supplements. I think the cost was well worth the extra courses.Epicuryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18202402318969816036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7912629715405541739.post-86967776180685430612008-07-20T21:17:00.000-07:002008-07-20T21:17:00.000-07:00Hi, I was googling French Laundry and saw your pos...Hi,

I was googling French Laundry and saw your post. Very good to see a fellow foodie.

Have you been to Per Se? I live in NY and have been to Per Se but was thinking of flying into Napa for French Laundry. Is it worth it if I've already been to Per Se?

Also if you don't mind me asking how much does the extended menu cost and do you just ask for it in advance?

Thanks!!!Tubshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10781901133339437735noreply@blogger.com
